A Short Business Moving Guide

moving guide

When you first start your business, you may not have use for a business moving guide but, as the time goes by and your business prospers, your appetites grows, and so will your need for more space. Sometimes however, these things will not be the main reason, but the fact that you simply got a better offer. Long story short, you will need to move to another location but moving your personal belongings is one thing while moving your entire business is much more complicated. With this in mind, here is a short list of things you need to do before you move in our business moving guide.

Easy Business Moving Guide

Make a checklist

Sure, you may believe strongly in your admirable memory skills, but there are so many things to do before you move that you are bound to forget at least something. For this reason, you need to start composing a checklist and you need to do it as soon as possible since in this way you have a greater chance of adding absolutely everything to it. As for the format of your checklist you can either do it the traditional way on paper or find a checklist app to help you out.

Notify everyone

In our moving guide, the next thing you need to do is notify everyone of importance that you are moving out. First thing first, you should make sure that all of your staff knows the exact date and the location to which you are moving. You can post notifications all over the office, have a public proclamation or even send a circular email. The last method is especially effective since some of your staff may still be on vacation while all of this is taking place. After this is done notify your partners and clients. The best way to do this is usually via phone since it demonstrates a particular effort on your side. Last but not the least important, make sure to change your company address in all the formal papers, any adds you may still have, your visit cards and most importantly on your website.

Think about your staff

Sure, most people never move unless they have a better option, but even here not all is milk and honey. Unfortunately, if you are moving to a different city or a different region not all of your staff will be willing or able to follow. Some, simply won’t find this kind of move acceptable and to some, you won’t be able to pay relocation bonus. All in all, these kinds of moments are hard for everyone so before the final decision is made you need to ask yourself once more “is it all worth it”. However, seeing how this is still a business decision you need to think rationally and not let emotions cloud your judgement.

Leave the place as you first saw it

Now, when you decide to move it is important that you leave a clean slate behind you. Pay any due bills you may have, pay the last month of rent and cancel any subscriptions to that address. Sure, not everyone is as ethical but you simply cannot allow for this kind of reputation to follow you since you would never again be able to find a reputable landlord to deal with you. One last thing, before you go, you need to leave the place exactly as you first saw it. This is why, it might be a good idea to take a picture on the first day when you arrive. Take everything that you can take, clean the rest thoroughly and finally call the junk removal people to help you out.

From all of this, you can see that even the best organized move is often a strenuous and difficult process that requires all of one’s focus. Furthermore, it almost always costs more than what your initial estimate suggests. Still, most business owners usually find that in the long run, this kind of move is almost always worth it. After first few times, moving should never pose a problem again.
